Taiwan, India to sign pact on migration

According to a report on September 27, Taiwan and India are considering a deal to make it easier for Indian employees to migrate to Taiwan in order to ease the labour shortage in important East Asian island sectors.

The sources told Hindustan Times that the agreement might be signed as early as the first week of the following month and that a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been agreed following discussions between the two parties.

According to the sources, Taipei is looking to New Delhi for assistance in finding employees for critical industries like manufacturing, including factories, construction projects, domestic labour, and agriculture and fisheries.

Google and HP collaborate to produce Chromebook computers in India

HP and Google have partnered with Google to produce Chromebooks in India in support of the Make in India initiative.

This partnership, according to a press release, aims to advance a shared objective of improving the state of digital education in India by giving educational authorities, schools, and institutions access to affordable, secure, high-quality computing devices and empowering more students to enhance their educational experiences.

The Chromebook devices will be made at the Flex Facility, close to Chennai, where HP has been making various laptops and desktops since August 2020. HP Chromebooks will begin to be produced on October 2, 2023.

India exceeds Japan and the UK in terms of mobile speed ranking

According to Ookla, India has outperformed developed countries like the UK and Japan in terms of mobile speed. With the introduction of 5G services, India’s speed performance increased by 3.59 times. Mobile download speeds have increased dramatically thanks to 5G, moving India up 72 spots to position 47 in the Speedtest Global Index, ahead of countries like Brazil, Japan, and the UK.

Along with the G20 nations, including Mexico (90th), Turkey (68th), the UK (62nd), Japan (58th), Brazil (50th), and South Africa (48th), India also ranks higher than its neighbors Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

Electronics industry body proposes PLI scheme for non-semiconductor sectors

According to reports, the government has been asked by the electronics industry’s trade group Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA) to create a production-linked incentive scheme for the industry’s non-semiconductor or computer chips, which is heavily reliant on imports.

According to a survey by the ELCINA, the country’s overall market for electronic components was anticipated to be worth roughly USD 39 billion, with imports covering 68% of the country’s needs in 2021–22.

Atul B. Lall, the new president of the organization, said during a speech at the 48th ELCINA Award Ceremony that the government’s scheme for devices has been extremely effective and that the incentive scheme for the semiconductor sector is gaining a lot of traction and that investments have begun to flood in.

MyGov CEO Akash Tripathi to lead India Semiconductor Mission

According to reports, Akash Tripathi, the chief executive of the Centre’s citizen engagement platform MyGov, will take over as CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) on October 9th.

ISM functions as an independent, specialized division under the Digital India Corp. The ministry of electronics and information technology established it in 2021 with a financial commitment of $10 billion. Its main goal is to strengthen the semiconductor and display ecosystem and to position India as a major global hub for electronics manufacturing and design.

The ISM selects applicants qualified for subsidies after reviewing proposals to establish semiconductor manufacturing in India.

Several Chinese vendors left the GeM platform: Official

Government officials have stated that the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), the government’s online platform for public procurement, has “weeded out” several sellers after it was determined through the examination of the shareholding patterns of the organizations that they were from China.

Additionally, GeM will soon introduce its updated lending scheme, GeM Sahay 2.0, which will enable sellers to receive a collateral-free loan of up to 10 lakh upon acceptance of an order on the GEM platform. According to GeM CEO PK Singh, it wants to accomplish so by enlisting PSU banks at competitive loan rates that might be as low as 10%.
