Online smartphone sales surpass offline figures for the first time in 2022

According to reports, sales of smartphones through online retailers like Amazon and Flipkart first surpassed those made through conventional stores in 2022. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, this was the first time that sales channels had been functioning at their usual capacity.

The weak consumer demand had an effect on the offline channels. Shipments to retail establishments in 2022 decreased 15% year over year (YoY). On the other hand, the research said that data from IDC India showed that shipments to online channels decreased 6% YoY but still represented 53% of the market.

Many companies provided discounts and promotions that were only available online, which helped e-commerce businesses increase their sales. Even popular smartphone manufacturers like Oppo, Vivo, and Samsung have introduced new models that are only available for online transactions.

India now 7th largest Lithium resource-rich country in the world
印度成為世界第七大鋰資源國

The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has for the first time confirmed the availability of lithium inferred resources of 5.9 million tonnes in Salal-Haimana area of Reasi in Union Territory (UT) of Jammu & Kashmir. This discovery is of strategic importance and will go a long way towards resolving the lithium shortage because lithium is a crucial component of lithium ion batteries, which are used in electric vehicles and other chargeable devices. India now has the seventh-largest lithium deposit in the world.

As most of the world’s sources of this vital non-ferrous metal are found in the US, Australia, Chile, China, Argentina, and Bolivia, India is currently significantly dependent on imports of lithium. The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has recently affected the supply, driving up the price of minerals. Only 26 million tonnes of lithium were treated as reserves, or ready for use globally, out of 98 million tonnes of total lithium resources.

No objection: Centre on forming an expert panel amid Adani row
受Adani股價暴跌影響,印度中央將成立委員會調查證券監管機制

The Union government and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) stated on Monday that they have no objections to the Supreme Court appointing an expert committee to review the current regulatory regime and frameworks in the securities market to safeguard investors from share value collapses like those experienced by the Adani Group following the publication of a report on the conglomerate by a U.S.-based short seller, Hindenburg Research.

However, in order to safeguard the market from disruptions, the Centre and the SEBI pleaded with a three-judge Bench chaired by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud to permit them to “suggest” to the court the purpose of the committee and the identities of its members under a sealed cover.

The market regulator, SEBI, which was also represented in court by attorney Pratap Venugopal, stated in a 22-page submission note that it was already looking into the claims made in the Hindenburg report as well as the market activity immediately before and after the report’s publication to find out whether any SEBI regulations had been violated.
