India to promote local semicon exports to developing countries
印度政府將促進國產半導體晶片出口

According to news sources, India intends to have intergovernmental discussions to encourage other countries to buy semiconductor chips manufactured in India.

These negotiations should take place with nations lacking significant semiconductor manufacturing capacities and are currently procuring chips from nations such as China and Taiwan, according to the experts. The idea is to approach developing nations, where there is a higher demand for “legacy node” semiconductor chips that are also less expensive to produce. The goal is also to increase India’s domestic semiconductor production and exports.

Approximately five applicants who filed for incentives under the INR 76,000 crore incentive package offered by the Indian Semiconductor Missions are said to be waiting for official approval to establish semiconductor production facilities.

Samsung India receives show cause notice from DRI
三星印度分公司被印度稅務情報局要求出庭

Samsung India has received a show-cause notice from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for tax evasion. The DRI questioned why it shouldn’t enforce a duty and interest recovery of Rs 1,728 crore from the company’s subsidiary for allegedly evading customs duties. It has also questioned why the company’s senior management shouldn’t receive a penalty.

The main issue concerns the improper declaration of imports of remote radio heads (RRH), a tiny gadget housed inside a tiny outdoor module and essential to the 4G telecom system. According to the DRI, it is an independent item of equipment and is therefore subject to customs duty. The company has said otherwise.

Companies that operate data centers demand reciprocity in data flow
在印度設立數據中心的業者要求跨國數據流通互惠

Technology infrastructure companies that are constructing data centers in India are requesting from the government that local user data storage and “reciprocity” in cross-border data flows be allowed.

The data center firms have requested that only nations that permit the sending of their citizens’ data to India receive data from Indian users. They also asked that a copy of the data stored overseas be also kept in India.  Additionally, it has been suggested that keeping user data in India will be advantageous for the government from an economic, FX, job, and growth perspective.

India plans cheaper financing and simpler rules for small retailers: the Union Budget 2023
印度政府將提供更優惠的貸款條件予小型零售商

The Indian government may provide low-cost credit to small retailers and relax some regulations controlling the sector, as the Prime Minister works to protect a sizable voting base that is losing business to e-commerce giants.

The proposal, which could be unveiled in the final full budget before the 2024 general election, aims to drive growth in the smaller physical retail sector, which has been negatively impacted by the entry of firms like Amazon, Flipkart, BigBasket, which is backed by the Tata Group, and Reliance Industries.
